Friday July 16, 2010$21 Billion in Unused Vacation Time
According to Expedia.com in 2003, that is how much the U.S. workforce left in unused vacation time. Another study found that 58% of U.S. executives said they had "job pressures" that prevented them from taking a vacation.
If you are part of this percentage you owe it to yourself, your sanity, and your family to go on vacation and recharge your batteries. If your "job pressures" are too great, you should consider having better processes and systems in place that do not require so much babysitting.
If you are too busy to work on your processes and systems, then you will always be too busy for a vacation. If this is you, call Calvin at (225) 910-8250 so he can make you a cup of coffee and talk about improving your systems and procedures.

A Working Vacation?
If you must work during vacation, you either have a job you love which doubles as your hobby (like us), or some outside force pressured you into taking a vacation.
Tip #1: Minimize Family Resentment by setting an expectation that you will only need to sneak away at a specific time (not times) to catch up.
Tip #2: Work While They're Sleeping and avoid the Internet Cafe while they are at the beach
Benefit #1: You will enjoy the time with your spouse and/or kids. Enough said there.
Benefit #2: Your co-workers covering for you will learn to "walk in your shoes," better appreciating what you do and becoming more independent for your next vacation.

Why a Hammond, LA office?
High Power is opening a Hammond, LA office this month. Hammond? Why not a big, bustling metropolis like Houston, New Orleans, or Atlanta? Simple: we value our employees' time. By having a Hammond Office we will be cutting almost 60 hours per week of drive-time for 4 employees. This gives them more time to recharge their batteries, think up creative solutions for our clients, enjoy their families, and save gas money. With all those benefits, they may forget about taking a vacation.
Don't worry, we'll invite you to our Open House party. Look for the invitation soon!
(You win a free coffee if you can name a model of a Hammond organ)

If you can't be with the [ph]one you love...
As a personal challenge to you, try leaving your phone (of course you have one) in your car during breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Enjoy your meals and give your undivided attention to the person you are with. And, if you can't be with the phone you love: Love the one you're with.
